Liquid Yeast 16 Oz

Liquid Yeast 16 Oz

$16.99

B-Complex Liquid Enzymatic Digested Derived from the Natural Enzymatic Digest of Brewers and Primary Yeasts A rich supply of B-complex vitamins and natural enzymatic digested yeast in liquid form for better digestion, absorption, assimilation and utilization. Natural Enzymatic Digested Yeast is a highly concentrated protein source produced from the action of natural enzymes on pure living yeast cells. It contains all the essential amino acids as well as minerals and B-complex vitamins. Since the yeast is enzymatically digested, the nutrients are more readily available to the body than nutrients from other yeasts. Due to yeast’s naturally high phosphorus content, crude mineral rich blackstrap molasses is added to enhance the naturally occurring calcium and magnesium, as well as the minerals potassium and iron. The yeast in this product is 100% natural. Therefore, color of product may vary. The amino acids quantities may vary from lot to lot due to the source of the amino acids being natural.

Rapid Yeast Relief

Rapid Yeast Relief

$23.74

“Women experience yeast and urinary tract issues more often than men, in part due to frequent disruptions in vaginal flora. When natural defenses are weakened due to poor diet, too much sugar, stress, illness, or medication use, harmful microorganisms such as Candida may thrive and contribute to health concerns. When this happens, normally harmless vaginal flora can grow out of control and disrupt the pH balance. Rapid Yeast Relief is formulated exclusively for women to maintain a healthy vaginal flora balance and help with urogenital tract health.”

Brewer's Yeast Powder 18 oz: K

Brewer’s Yeast Powder 18 oz: K

$13.87

Brewer’s yeast, which is often called nutritional yeast, was originally a by-product of the brewing of beer. Brewer’s yeast is nutritionally the same as Nutritional yeast, but, as a by-product of beer-brewing, it has a characteristic bitter hops flavor. Nutritional yeast, the same yeast, is grown on mineral enriched molasses and grain instead of hops, and more often used as a food supplement, because it tastes better. This is actually debittered Brewer’s Yeast, in other words, Nutritional Yeast. At the end of the Nutritional yeast growth period, the culture is pasteurized to kill the yeast. This retains the nutrients, but deactivates the live yeast (i.e. baking yeast) as a food supplement because the live yeast continues to grow in the intestine and actually uses up the vitamin B in the body instead of replenishing the supply. Yeast are single-celled microorganisms that reproduce by budding. They are biologically classified as fungi and are responsible for converting fermentable sugars into alcohol and other byproducts. There are literally hundreds of varieties and strains of yeast. In the past, there were two types of beer yeast: ale yeast (the ‘top-fermenting’ type, Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and lager yeast (the ‘bottom-fermenting’ type, Saccharomyces uvarum). Today, as a result of recent reclassification of Saccharomyces species, both ale and lager yeast strains are considered to be members of S. cerevisiae. Nutritional and Brewer’s yeast contains high levels of many important nutrients, including all of the B vitamins (except for B12), 16 out of 20 amino acids, and 14 different minerals. The amino acids (proteins) in yeast help the body repair tissue and fight disease. Nutritional and Brewer’s yeast has a very high protein content, with one tbsp providing 4.6 g, making it a rich source of protein for vegetarians. It is also high in phosphorus. Because yeast is such a rich source of B vitamins, it enhances the roles these vitamins play in the body. The B-complex vitamins help your body metabolize carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. They also support the nervous system and help maintain the muscles used for digestion. Brewer’s yeast is also an important source of chromium. The U.S. FDA recommends 120 mcg of chromium daily, but 90% of Americans are deficient in this important mineral. Chromium has the ability to significantly lower blood cholesterol levels.

Yeast Biotechnology: Diversity and Applications

Yeast Biotechnology: Diversity and Applications

$408.98

This book updates the knowledge that we have accumulated over the last couple of decades on yeast research. The yeasts are eukaryotic unicellular microfungi that are widely distributed in the natural environment, and can also be found in more specialized or extreme environments, such as low temperatures, low oxygen availabilities and water potential. Approximately 1500 species of yeasts belonging to over 100 genera have been described so far. Although the vast majority of yeasts are beneficial to human life, only a few are opportunistic human pathogens. Yeasts play an important role in the food chain, and in the carbon, nitrogen and sulphur cycles. In addition, yeasts (e.g. Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Hansenula polymorpha, Pichia pastoris) are now being used to express foreign genes for producing human proteins of pharmaceutical interest. A landmark in biotechnology was reached in 1996 with the completion of the sequencing of the entire genome of S. cerevisiae and the genome sequencing of three more yeasts (Schizosaccharomyces pombe, Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neofromans) have recently been completed. Saccharomyces cerevisiae has now become a central player in the development of an entirely new approach to biological research a " systems biology. The products of modern yeast biotechnology impinges on many commercially important sectors including foods, beverages, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, industrial enzymes, agriculture and environmental bioremediation. This book is aimed at bringing together and updating the latest information on the diversity of yeasts under natural and extreme environments, their ecology and adaptations, taxonomy and systematics, physiology and biochemistry, as well as their molecular features and biotechnological applications.

Thomas Henry Huxley PC, FRS (1825-1895) was an English biologist. He was instrumental in developing scientific education in Britain, and fought against the more extreme versions of religious tradition. He had little schooling, and taught himself almost everything he knew. Remarkably, he became perhaps the finest comparative anatomist of the second half of the nineteenth century. He worked first on invertebrates, clarifying the relationships between groups that were previously little understood. Later, he worked more on vertebrates, especially on the relationship between man and the apes. Another of his important conclusions was that birds evolved from dinosaurs, namely, small carnivorous theropods. This view is widely held today. The tendency has been for this fine anatomical work to be overshadowed by his energetic controversial activity in favour of evolution, and by his extensive public work on scientific education, both of which had significant effect on society in Britain and elsewhere.

Nutritional Yeast Large Flakes (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), 25 lb box: K

$353.7

This is a primary grown nutritional yeast from pure strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae grown on mixtures of cane and beet molasses. After the fermentation process is completed the yeast is harvested, thoroughly washed, pasteurized, and dried on roller drum dryers. The B vitamins are both naturally produced during fermentation, and added to the cream prior to the drying process. Riboflavin (B2) and Cyanocobalamin (B12) are created during fermentation. Additional Riboflavin (B2) and Cyanocobalamin (B12) are added after fermentation along with Thiamine (B1), Pyridoxine HCL (B6), Niacin and Folic Acid. Brewer’s yeast, which is often called nutritional yeast, was originally a by-product of the brewing of beer. Brewer’s yeast is nutritionally the same as Nutritional yeast, but, as a by-product of beer-brewing, it has a characteristic bitter hops flavor. Nutritional yeast, the same yeast, is grown on mineral enriched molasses instead of hops, and more often used as a food supplement, because it tastes better. English Bread and Yeast Cookery. Elizabeth David

English Bread and Yeast Cookery. Elizabeth David

$23.98

First published in 1977, and winning its author the coveted Glenfiddich Writer of the Year Award, this universally acclaimed book is regarded by many as simply the best book ever written about the making of bread. It covers all aspects of flour-milling, yeast, bread ovens and the different types of bread and flour available. It contains an exhaustive collection of recipes, everything from plain brown wholemeal or saffron cake to drop scones and croissants; all described with her typical elegance and unrivalled knowledge. Even how to make your own yeast and keep it. But more than just a list of recipes, it is an insight into an interesting and informative home-baker. Enquire within on any point connected with baking and Miss David has the answer. Nor does it omit the history of bread making from the Exodus onwards, the iniquities of sliced bread and uncovers the dubious practices of some flour millers and bread manufacturers in the UK and elsewhere with amusing anecdotes and personal observations throughout. The writing style of this book has aged well and adds greatly to its charm. This is a book that should be included in every food lover’s collection. Not just for those who love to cook but those who enjoy reading about food and its history, and of course it is an absolute must for keen bakers.

Red Yeast Rice 600 mg 60 capsules: K

Red Yeast Rice 600 mg 60 capsules: K

$13.58

Red Yeast Rice is manufactured by the fermentation of a strain of yeast, Monascus purpureus, on rice. Red yeast rice is an all-natural whole food powder made from dried fermented rice, with a remarkable ability to lower LDL-cholesterol levels with minimal side effects. For over 20 centuries, Red Yeast has been used in China by millions of folks as a part of they’re daily health program. Today, research is looking at a key ingredient in Red Yeast called Monacolin K to see how it helps maintain cholesterol levels already in the normal ranges, plus inhibit the production of it. Red Rice Yeast is a traditional Chinese herbal remedy that has been shown in animal and human studies to lower serum cholesterol levels. Red Rice Yeast is derived from a strain of yeast (M purpureus Went) that is prepared by a traditional rice fermentation process. The yeast has been shown to contain compounds that posses the same activity as found in the statin drugs, which is responsible for inhibiting cholesterol synthesis in the liver. A rigorous trial from the UCLA School of Medicine, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 1999, confirmed that a supplement known as red yeast extract reduces cholesterol levels by an average of 40 points in 12 weeks when combined with a low-fat diet. That”s about the same result you”d expect from a low dose of the popular cholesterol drug, Mevacor. Red yeast extract contains a number of cholesterol-lowering compounds known as statins, among them lovastatin, the same active ingredient that”s in Mevacor. Researchers have determined that one of the ingredients in red yeast rice, called monacolin K, inhibits the production of cholesterol by stopping the action of a key enzyme in the liver (e.g., HMG-CoA reductase) that is responsible for manufacturing cholesterol. The drug lovastatin (Mevacor®) acts in a similar fashion to this red yeast rice ingredient. However, the amount per volume of monacolin K in red yeast rice is small (0.2% per 5 mg) when compared to the 20–40 mg of lovastatin available as a prescription drug. This has prompted researchers to suggest that red yeast rice may have other ingredients, such as sterols, that might also contribute to lowering cholesterol. A double-blind trial at the UCLA School of Medicine determined that red yeast rice in the amount of 2.4 grams per day (approximately 10 mg total monacolins) in capsules significantly decreased total- and LDL-cholesterol levels in a sample of people with elevated cholesterol after 12 weeks of therapy. Triglycerides were also reduced in those taking red yeast rice. However, unlike the original study, HDL values did not increase substantially. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study at UCLA, a dose of 2.4 grams of red yeast rice powder per day decreased LDL-cholesterol by 18% after 8 weeks. Similar studies conducted in China with a more concentrated form of the same product resulted in decreases in LDL-cholesterol of up to 32% a
